Club Notes from April 28th 2008
Adult Football: Both Seniors and Reserves entertained Kildress on Sunday 27th April, with both having mixed fortunes. The Reserves were first up and in a very close and competitive game throughout, they were defeated by 2 points on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-08. The Senior game followed a similar pattern to the Reserves, with Donaghmore having a slender advantage at half – time, leading by 1 point: 0-04 to 0-03. However, an excellent start to the second – half enabled Donaghmore to extend their lead to 4 points, and they were left to rue some missed chances as Kildress were gifted a few scores to come back and tie the game at 0-09 apiece. Donaghmore regained the lead entering the final minutes, but there was still time for one final twist when Kildress equalised in the dying seconds. Next up for the Seniors is an away trip to Ardboe on Thursday 1st May with throw – in at 7:15PM. There has been no date set for the corresponding Reserve fixture to take place.
Youth Football: The Under – 14’s secured yet another victory in the League when they defeated Dungannon on Friday 25th April. This was an excellent team performance by the boys, despite being 1 point down at half – time, they went on to win by a good margin at the final whistle. There were some excellent scores recorded over the hour, and local lad Philip McKenna has bragging rights over dad Packie for a while as he recorded a great team score against his fathers club. Next fixture for the Under – 14’s is away to Clonoe in the League on Wednesday 30th April at 7:15PM. Under – 16 continues at the normal times as last week, Tuesday and Friday at 6:30PM. Under – 12 training also continues every Thursday at 6:30PM, and this is a reminder for all boys for this age group make sure they are at training as the dates for their games starting fast approaches. All players and parents please note that from MONDAY 5th MAY, all Under – 8 and Under – 10 training will move back to the football field, commencing at the same time from 7 – 8PM. The Under – 10’s enjoyed a very successful blitz on Saturday 26th April when they travelled to Clonoe. Thanks to the Clonoe club for their hospitality.

Club Notes from April 21st 2008
Adult Football: Seniors and Reserves both had disappointing results when they visited parish neighbours Galbally on Saturday 19th April. The Reserves were first up and were beaten on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-08, whilst the Seniors fared little better when they were defeated 0-16 to 0-06. However, both teams have a chance to get back to winning ways when they entertain Kildress in Round 2 of the ACL this Sunday 27th April, throw – in times are at 2:15PM and 3:45PM. Training continues on Tuesday and Friday at 7:30PM. Best wishes to Joe McCaughey who picked up an injury in Saturday nights Senior game – we wish him a speedy recovery.
Youth Football: The Under – 18 League game against Cookstown scheduled for Wednesday 23rd April has been postponed due to Tyrone’s involvement in the Ulster Minor League Final on Thursday 24th April, this game will be re- fixed for a later date. The Under – 14’s travel to Dungannon on Friday 25th April for their League re – fixture, throw – in for this game is at 6:30PM. The Under – 18’s travel to Omagh next Tuesday 29th April for the Championship 1st Round, therefore attendance at training this week is vital for all players. Under – 16 training has now commenced for the 2008 season, and continues at the normal times as last week, Tuesday and Friday at 6:30PM. Under – 12 training also continues every Thursday at 6:30PM, and this is a reminder for all boys for this age group make sure they are at training as the dates for their games starting fast approaches. There is still plenty of accommodation available for any patrons who would like to stay over for one night, or for the weekend.
Sympathy: It was with deep regret that we learnt last Tuesday 15th April of the sad and sudden passing of our Club President Norah Devlin. Norah had been involved with Donaghmore GFC for well over 30 years, and a large part of this association had been in the role as Treasurer, which she held for over 20 years. Norah was always on hand for help and advice on any matter, and her presence will be sorely missed. It was fitting that Norah’s final journey was flanked by many members of the club who performed a superb guard of honour as a mark of respect for her contribution to Donaghmore GFC over her lifetime. Sympathy is extended to brothers, sisters and entire family circle.
Club Notes from April 14th 2008
Adult Football: This weekend sees the return to All County League action when both Seniors and Reserves travel to parish neighbours Galbally, for throw – in times of 5Pm and 6:30PM respectively. Both teams enjoyed useful run – outs against O’Donovan Ross Magherafelt on Sunday 13th April. Training continues on Tuesday and Friday at 7:30PM.
Youth Football: In a busy week for Youth football, there were highs and lows suffered by both Under – 14 and Under – 18 teams over the past seven days. The Under – 14’s continued their fine League form with a win over Dungannon on Tuesday 8th April, and this was followed by a very tough game against Omagh in the 1st Round of the Championship on Saturday 12th April. This was a game which Omagh entered as raging hot favourites, as they swept all before them in the Western League section. However, Donaghmore set their marker down early and got the first few scores to settle any nerves. Omagh made their intentions clear however and got a stranglehold on the game in the second quarter to lead at the half – time interval. The same pattern continued in the third quarter with Omagh forcing the initiative to increase their lead, and it looked as if the game was running away from Donaghmore. However, to their credit, Donaghmore fought back in the final quarter and reduced the deficit to 6 points at one stage, but unfortunately couldn't make any further reduction on the Omagh lead. Final Score: Donaghmore 5-09 Omagh 7-10. The Under – 14’s continue their League away to Dungannon on Tuesday 15th April at 7:15PM, and the Tyrone Feile takes place this Saturday 19th April, commencing at 10:30AM in Dungannon, where the group consists of Dungannon, Donaghmore and Coalisland. The Under – 18 season got underway on Monday 7th April with an opening victory over Dungannon, followed up with an away win over Coalisland. However, the boys were unfortunate not to make it three – in a – row when they were narrowly defeated by Brackaville on Sunday 13th April by 3 points. Another tough proposition lies in store when they travel to Ardboe on Wednesday 16th April, throw – in at 7:15PM. Under – 8 and Under – 10 training continues every Monday night in Donaghmore convent from 7 – 8PM. All children are reminded to take both indoor and outdoor training gear.

All present thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment provided and were very complimentary on the performance. Well done to all involved.
Lotto: The winning numbers drawn on Monday 7th April were 6, 10, 13 and 18, with 6 people matching 3 numbers receiving £20 each.
Gala Dinner: All patrons are advised that final preparations are now in place for our Gala Dinner which takes place on Saturday 3rd May in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran. There will be a full list of auction items appearing in local press over the coming weeks, so please keep an eye out for details. There is still plenty of accommodation available for any patrons who would like to stay over for one night, or for the weekend.
Club Notes from April 7th 2008
Adult Football: The Reserves suffered defeat in their 1st League outing on Sunday 6th April when they were defeated at home by Errigal Ciaran. There is no fixture this weekend for Seniors or Reserves as Tyrone play in the National League. Training continues on Tuesday and Friday at 7:30PM.
Youth Football: The Under – 14’s continued their fine run of late when they defeated Naomh Mhuire in the League on Friday 4th April. Adult Football: The Senior team suffered their second defeat in four outings when they lost to Latton at the weekend. In wintry conditions, it was the home side that held the upper hand throughout most of the game, and their dominance was reflected with a healthy half – time lead. Donaghmore provided more resistance in the second period, but it was Latton who ran out comfortable winners on a 3-14 to 1-07 score line. Adult Football: The Seniors travelled to Ballyholland in Co Down at the weekend in their third game of the Ulster League, and came away with a 4 – point victory on a scoreline of 0-12 to 0-08. It was Donaghmore who made all the early running and quickly established momentum in the first quarter of the game, as the movement of the forward line asked plenty of questions of the Ballyholland defence. By the half – time whistle, Donaghmore had built up a deserving 5 – point lead. However, on the restart a few positional changes by Ballyholland negated Donaghmore’s initial influence, and it was a very close second – period with both teams spurning good scoring chances. In the end, Donaghmore ran out winners by 4 points, which sets them up nicely for their next fixture which is away to Latton (Co Monaghan) on Sunday 24th February at 2PM. If there are any amendments to the time or location of this fixture, they will be displayed on the website and on posters in local shops. Thanks to the Ballyholland club for the hospitality provided after the game for players and spectators alike.

Adult Football: The Seniors entertained Ballinderry in the 2nd Round of the Ulster League, and in an entertaining and competitive game, just came out on the wrong end of a 2-10 to 2-07 scoreline. It was Ballinderry who made the early impression, scoring a goal with their first attack, and they continued to control proceedings for most of the half, with Donaghmore being unable to turn possession into scores. A second goal by Ballinderry in the second – half opened up a six – point gap and seemed to put the game beyond Donaghmore’s reach. However, a battling last ten minutes saw the deficit reduced to just 3 points with a few minutes remaining, but Ballinderry held on to secure victory. The next fixture is away to Ballyholland (Co Down) this weekend, with the day and time yet to be confirmed between both clubs. Please check website and posters in local shops for details.

Adult Football: The Seniors travelled to Cullaville in South Armagh on Sunday past for their first outing of 2008 in the Ulster Senior Football League. In what was at time atrocious weather conditions, it was Donaghmore who held the upper – hand for much of the first half and deservedly led at half – time on a scoreline of 0-06 to 0-03. A strong start to the second – half, which was aided by the strong wind, allowed Donaghmore to strengthen their grip on the match and carry a 6 point lead into the final 10 minutes of the game. However, some slack defending allowed Cullaville to score a goal to being them back into contention, but Donaghmore finished with the final point of the game to win on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-06. The next fixture in the Ulster League is against Ballinderry this weekend. Exact details of location and time have yet to be confirmed, so please check website and posters in local shops for details.
